Once again you have to hand it to Jerry Lewis who always seems to rise to the occasion when it comes to the Labor Day Telethon for MDA. The goal for this year was one dollar more than last year's sixty-five million dollars. Seeing the old clips of a young Jerry Lewis with the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin brings back memories for all of us. It was great too seeing my old friend Ed McMahon. Ed remembers me as the young and handsome character who was willing to appear on the Tonight Show with he and Johnny Carson at the drop of a hat. Yes, every time a scheduled appearance fell through, the Tonight Show car would pick up yours truly for a fast trip to the studio.

The South Point Hotel and Casino deserves our accolades for being so gracious to all the entertainers and the audiences for this year's Telethon. This was the third year for South Point to host the Labor Day Telethon and I suspect they're probably in line to continue the good work.

While at South Point I had lunch with Johnny Pizza who was there with Frank Sinatra, Jr. Johnny informed me he was moving to Atlanta to be with his ailing mother. Johnny and Junior (Sinatra) were just two of the many performers who continually answer the call and donate their time and talent to the week end event. One of the standouts this year had to be Jack Jones.

Just spoke to the lovely Charov who has a new reality show.. Her latest recording just made it to number seven on the Billboard Charts. Charo will appear at South Point on February 6 and 7, 2009. If you've never seen this lady in person, give yourself a treat.-her classical flamenco guitar playing is a show-stopper.

Alice Cooper, appearing at a locals casino was his usual self, just be being Alice Cooper.

Again this week I couldn't turn away from the television. It was time for the Republican Convention. Your columnist is definitely not in to politics but I must say, Sarah Palin was a stand out. I felt she brought something to the Convention. It's not Hillary Clinton but it's a woman and she's kind of hot for a politician. Let the games begin.

Time will tell which camp, Obama or McCain, can offer up the best solutions for the current economic crisis.

Seems like I've been writing and talking about Criss Angel's show "Believe" at the Luxor for months. Last week I mentioned another postponement. Inside sources tell me the show may be a snooze. Take it from one who knows, an act on television doesn't always transcend to the big stage arena. As a television personality I had to find a way of working the cabaret scene and it wasn't always good for Monti Rock. Over the years it was hit or miss. Confession is good for the soul. Not to worry, the Rock prevailed.

You can add Ooh La La at the Paris to the list of closings along with Ron Lucas at the Excalibur.and The World's Great Magic Show at The Greek Isles. They_even tried giving away tickets but there were no takers. According to Concerts West the biggest ticket seller for shows continues to be the one and only Cher at Caesers Colosseum. It's now official,. The Palazzo will turn the 40-40 Club into a sports book.

Over at The Flamingo, , Donny and Marie Osmond tickets have been selling fast and furious. --they open Tues Sept 9 And don't forget to check out Vinny Favorito also at the Flamingo. He's fast becoming the talk of the Strip for his comedy routines. By the way, Donny and Marie will be competing with the Osmond Brothers, who also will be performing locally later this month. There are enough Osmonds to become a sort of family "Cirque du Soleil". Osmonds all over the place!

Glen Alai , the man behind Penn and Teller at the Rio, tells me their numbers are great while Jubilee at Bally's (???) is offering tickets for $27 to entice locals. Listen people, don't pass up this offer. This really is a must see show.

Wes Winters, who's currently at the Steve Wyrick Theater at Miracle Mile in Planet Hollywood, took some time off to see his idol, Barry Manilow. Barry has been headlining at the Hilton and was very gracious to our Wes backstage after the show/. Steve Wyrick has a 1000 performance event on Fri Sept 12 along with a presentation if a custom SW1000 Chopper "bike"

Some of the casinos, including the Excalibur, are trying the latest gadget, which is electronic poker. The electronic poker machines eliminate the dealers which makes us ask, "Where are we headed?" The thought of no dealers changes the whole atmosphere, doesn't it?

The life and times of my friend and well known keyboardist Harvey Kaye, who became a manager and agent, will be celebrated at a memorial service on September 8th at the Las Vegas Elks Lodge, 4100 West Charleston.

Jay White, tribute artist at the Riviera's America's Diamond Live Show, just broke all kinds of records at Salt Lake City last month performing for a crowd of more than 14,000. By the way, Jay is the only tribute artist that has actually been endorsed by the one and only Neil Diamond. Check it out. Another friend, Mimi Hines, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Mimi was to star in on Broadway in a reivival of Pippin, but had to put it on hold while facing this challenge. She is a one of a kind and we all send our love and prayers to her. as she prepares for surgery this week.

Atlantic City-get ready! Yours truly (as Disco Tex) will be appeaaring at the Taj Mahal on Oct 25 in "Disco Ball" .along with other stars of the "Disco "era.
